As some of you may have noticed I ran a little experiment yesterday. Basically what I did was disabled the blog and set up a hit counter for 24 hours to see how many people come to shane.rsbandb.com directly. About 490 people came to the page in 24 hours. Now my reasoning…

Over the past month or so (since late November-ish) I have been having problems finding new content, flashy fridays, and the like. I could write at nauseum about programming ideas such as just why exactly if you think your data distribution might be close to sorted it is better to use merge sort rather than quick sort. I come across lots of links, videos, and pictures. A tumblelog would be more suited to this, however for some reason using Tumblr or this blog for it doesn’t seem right. The only reason I wouldn’t use Tumblr is because it doesn’t allow me to have my content on this server which is important to me.

Another aspect is RuneWire. Before I used this blog for Runescape postings. A good chunk of those are on RuneWire now. I havn’t made any decisions yet but finding something to post about in full length (like this post) is getting harder. Thus pardon the language but it’s becoming a pain in the ass to update.

Here’s a little bit of a list of some posts from this year. I’ve selected a post from each month and 5 videos in total so here they are:

Now some videos in no particular order…

That’s all for 2007, I’ll be back tomorrow with some predictions.

Version 2.3 Finally…

December 23rd, 2007

I’ve finally taken the time to move this blog over to version 2.3. I can say that a new theme might be in the works over the next week or so. Realistically I want something that I can change around so that certain content will be only available in certain areas. For instances if I wanted to have RuneWire post my daily uppdates I’d want those going in another section to limit spam. I think I may have found it but I’m not sure. The other option is to stick with this theme and adjust it so only certain categories show up and make an entry point to another page.

But anyways… enjoy the taggedness.

Two Years Ago Today…

September 7th, 2006

Two years ago today was the day I logged in to Runescape and found myself to be hacked. To this day I have no idea as to how I got hacked or who the attackers were. I’ve always practiced good internet security etc… Since then my account has been safe and I put valubles away each night. This isn’t to bring to your attention that I was hacked.

The purpose of this post is to remind people to use a somewhat random password, upper and lower case characters, and numbers in it. So let this little reminder be in your mind next time you log in to Runescape.

Two Years…

September 4th, 2006

Hello, this is a test of the WordPress system. If anyone is seeing this that means it is working fine :) . This is the very first post of what I hope to be many on this weblog.

Those are the exact words that this blog started with two years ago today, September 4, 2004. At first I didn’t post for three days and I didn’t knonw if I would. But then something happened on Runescape that got me started with my posts, I got hacked.

If you look back at some of the old posts you’ll notice that they are filled with comment spam. This was the era of Wordpress 1.2 before Wordpress 1.5. Now we are on Wordpress 2.0.3. I have changed the themes many times until I finally found this one. I have a great design planned that I need to implement one day. It’s much more user friendly giving access to most of the wanted features here.

So on to two more years of posting :P

I just rebooted from my Windows Vista RC1 (Build 5600) it’s gotten much more stable and has also recieved some performance enhancements since build 5384 which I tried. It’s going to be a good OS one day, but I am not sure if I am ready to take it when it comes out. The reason for this is there could be a whole huge list of security flaws and frankly I feel safer with my proven Windows XP. So no Vista for me for quite some time.
