The Daily Bits

I’ve finally taken the time to move this blog over to version 2.3. I can say that a new theme might be in the works over the next week or so. Realistically I want something that I can change around so that certain content will be only available in certain areas. For instances if I wanted to have RuneWire post my daily uppdates I’d want those going in another section to limit spam. I think I may have found it but I’m not sure. The other option is to stick with this theme and adjust it so only certain categories show up and make an entry point to another page.

But anyways… enjoy the taggedness.

I’ll start off with noting that I have finished most of the customizations I have set out to make on this theme. I’m really starting to like it now. Let me explain a bit about it. On the left we have my Digg stories that I have dugg and my del.iciou.us links. In the right sidebar we have the typical wordpress stuff, categories, search, links, and archives. In the top navigation bar we have links to all of the other RSBandB major projects. We also have links to the oh so important RSS feeds. I have put two feed links in. One for the general feed and one for the Runescape Pictures as I know many people come here just for that. Anyways onto Flashy Friday.

Finally a game that I can say is fun and not annoying! This game is one in which you use your keyboard arrows to control a tiny car. The car has realistic momentum so it just doesn’t stop when you lift up off the gas. It’s quite fun… You can play it here.

I’ve spent the better part of the day today working on tweaking this new theme. It’s based on a mix of two other themes, ‘easy’ and ‘black’ hence the name ‘easy black’. You can find more info about them down in the footer. I quite like the way this is turning out. There is still lots to be done…

For instance I’m not sure what to do for my problem relating to the highly coveted Runescape pictures. The problem that I sometimes encounter is that the photos disappear too quickly. Who knows I may just end up making a page where you can go to see them I’ve also added a left sidebar which will be populated tomorrow with some features that I abandoned back in February. The pixel icons for post/comment need to be adjusted so that they no longer have a white border. I hope I can adjust these…

Finally you’ll see an addition of a top navigation bar… sorta. It won’t be any fancy tabs or anything but it’ll get the job done. I’ll also be doing some severe looking back and re-categorizing posts into fewer categories. My dugg stories will also go into their own category, probably something along the lines of “Dugg.”

I was doing some tinkering around with my photos trying to get them moved into a new folder. I was partially sucessful… So as you may see browsing around here some of the uploaded content may be missing in action! Don’t worry it’s still on the server.

I’m not quite sure what to do about the Runescape Pictures. There are over 400 of them and most of them have a unique comment on them. This has been the same Wordpress install since last 2004. I’ve applied the frequent upgrades and such but it is becoming far too messy…

Anyways I gotta take a look around and see what posts I want to migrate etc… Maybe I’ll try Flickr…

As some of you may or may not know this blog runs on Wordpress. I have been playing around with Vox. However after much deliberation I decided that I’ll be staying with Wordpress. I’ll explain a bit about what Vox is.

Vox is a new blogging service which is very heavily community based. They are on a closed beta right now, if you want an invite let me know with your email address and I will send you one.

However the main reason I am sticking with Wordpress of customization. With Wordpress I’ll be able to work on the next version of this blog and add a whole new design with many new useful features. This is actually what lead me to wordpress in the first place. Some people find the community aspect more attractive but personall I like customizing Wordpress to get a truly unique blog.

So with that said in the coming month(s) you can see a new design up here.
